今天，Internet Explorer 7 (IE7) 作为一个有竞争力的浏览器，具备了多数用户所需要的特性。但因为始终存在的安全考虑，仍难以成为推荐产品。过去，IE一直是安全攻击的焦点，而IE7的发布并无助于改变这一点。另外，微软在快速修复IE的缺陷方面，记录很差。这使得用户处于攻击和0-day漏洞威胁之下。这一情况引出了系列新型浏览器，它们功能更多、更安全、速度更快。
在几款相当优秀的替代品中，发布不久的 Mozilla Firefox V2 [1] 当属第一选择。它比 IE 安全，准确说是安全很多，有很多用户称，自从用了Firefox之后，就再也没中过恶意软件。另外，它比IE速度更快，并且很稳定，更符合标准。它启动时比IE稍慢，但一旦开始运行就表现良好了。凭着多tab浏览方式，和超过2000多种免费扩展，你可以让浏览行为更加个性化。对大多数用户而言，它为浏览网页带来了升级的体验。目前，Firefox已经成为了我每天都用的首选浏览器，尽管并没有卸载IE7——偶尔我要用它浏览那些围绕IE的非标准功能而开发的网站。如果你需要进一步的指导，可参见我的从IE到Firefox的过渡指导。
并列第一的推荐软件还有Opera [2]。它在速度方面非常出色；算得上常见浏览器中最快的一款。但是，它的优点不仅限于此，它还是功能丰富、符合标准、高度安全。如同 Firefox 通过扩展来增加功能那样，Opera 也可以通过 Widgets 来强化，尽管它们的数量不象Firefox扩展那样多。需要说明的是，它并不需要太多扩展，因为Firefox通过扩展而增加的很多常用功能，已经内置于标准的Opera浏览器。象Opera V9那样，它的内置功能已足够丰富，你可以很容易地找出例子，来证明Opera比Firefox更好。实际上，如果能够为我最常用的Firefox扩展功能找到Opera替代方案，我就会转向Opera。
如果熟悉了微软IE，不想费太多力气换向新平台，则可以通过众多的基于IE的浏览器外壳，来得到Firefox或Opera的优势。比如 Maxthon [3] 和 Avant [4]。过去，这些外壳的主要卖点是多tab浏览，但因为IE7已经实现了这点，所以现在很难再成为主要推荐理由。但是，如果你需要一些特别的功能，它们仍值得考虑。但不幸的是，IE所面临的安全问题同样适用于这些外壳，因为它们采用了IE引擎。
最后一款（并不意味着不好）是 K-Meleon [5]，为 Windows 做过优化的Firefox近亲。我在不同计算机上用过的4款浏览器中，K-Meleon在载入速度方面和Opera一样快，在浏览方面则是最快。说到缺点，就是它的扩展数量较少，因此，你很大程度上受限于标准产品所提供的特性。如果你看重性能超过个性化，则K-Meleon不可不试。

2 最佳免费杀毒软件 更新2008-02-02
杀毒软件在保护主机/客户端免受大量的病毒、木马、rootkit 风险方面至为关键。它们还可以防止病毒通过多种介质的文件共享扩散。同时，杀毒软件也是网络安全方案中，仅次于防火墙的第2关键因素。
如果你寻求可能的最大保护，则我最推荐的方案是 Avira AntiVir Personal Edition Classic [1]。尽管它的检测率非常出众，但仍有一些局限。首先，它缺乏邮件扫描功能（付费版才提供）。这意味着如果有邮件含有病毒，则在你打开它之前，软件并不会报警。当然了，一旦你打开此邮件，杀毒工具就会采取行动。缺少邮件扫描并不意味着你失去了对邮件病毒的防护。其次，AntiVir 是一款工作方式略显干扰的产品，你会明显地注意到它的活动。最后，它的许可是有期限的，尽管可以免费更新，但毕竟有些不便。
推荐产品：
如果你不喜欢 AntiVir，我会推荐 AVG Antivirus 7 免费版 [2] 或 Avast! scanner [3]。尽管它们的检测率没有 AntiVir 那样高，但功能更加全面，工作方式也更为安静。
AVG 免费版自从1991年发布以来，就不断改进。最新的V7.5版则更为这款优秀软件带来了巨大进步。此外，它相对更小巧，占用资源更少，可定期更新，能够扫描邮件。它分免费版和专业版。唯一区别是免费版中有几项不太关键的功能被禁用了，除了免费的用户论坛外，也不提供技术支持。
同样优秀的备选方案是免费的 Avast scanner [3]，尽管不是所有人都喜欢它那媒体播放器风格的界面。Avast 也需要定期更新注册信息，而 AVG 则不需要。但是，Avast 不存在签名文件定期更新的问题，而有些 AVG 用户则对此偶有怨言。
AVG 和 Avast 作为优秀的免费软件，可以满足大多数用户的需求。但是，它们都不能做到最好的恶意软件防护功能。这方面的冠军属于象 NOD32, F Secure, AntiVir完整版, Kaspersky AV 等商业产品。但无论如何，这些免费产品可以作为商业套件的更经济、有竞争力的替代品。
如果你使用 AVG 或 Avast的同时，又使用了沙盘来浏览网络 (见第4节) ，采用其他反间谍软件 (见第3节) ，你就能达到可与任何顶级商业杀毒产品媲美的效果。
再一种提升效果的做法是，定期手工运行另外一种杀毒软件来扫描系统。
手工扫描应该定期运行，至少每周一次，来检测出主杀毒软件未能发现的漏网之鱼。
有一款值得推荐的手工扫描工具，即商业安全产品 BitDefender [4] 的免费版本。它是一流的软件，拥有出色的病毒检出率。但免费版缺乏邮件扫描、常驻系统监测功能，所以，只适合作为手工扫描工具，而不适合用作主杀毒工具。另外，它还存在其他的限制。首先，它会多余而扰人地处理其他安全软件已经处理过的恶意程序，并且你不能从检测对象中排除这些目录。第二，它的许可只有一年并且不可更新。

3 最佳免费广告/间谍/恶意软件移除工具 更新 2月 10, 2008
几年前，大多数人选用 SpyBot Search and Destroy 和 Ad-Aware 进行间谍软件防护。但是，间谍软件进化很快，这些昔日的顶级安全软件现在已经不能胜任首要防护的重任，尽管它们仍可以作为不错的第二位、可供手工调度扫描的方案。
新一代恶意软件需要新一代安全产品才能对付。这样的产品要有更强大的行为防护，更广泛的特征识别。最顶级的反间谍程序产品—— WebRoot SpySweeper, Spyware Doctor 和 CounterSpy——都是商业软件。幸运的是，我还有3款能力相当的免费产品可以推荐。
第一个是 Spyware Doctor的精简版，并且被收录到 Google Pack [1] （Google收录的一系列免费软件），称为 "Spyware Doctor Starter Edition" 。精简版去除了商业版才拥有的实时监控保护功能，但仍然提供了行为保护功能，比如完整的扫描和移除功能、定时扫描、免费签名文件更新。提到签名文件，我们就必须提一下，Starter Edition的签名文件可不象它的商业化同门产品那样庞大和频繁更新。
你的第二选择是微软的 Windows Defender [2]。此产品是微软于2004年收购优秀的安全软件 Giant Anti-Spyware 之后的重整产品。据我的测试，Windows Defender 尽管没有原产品那样高效，但总体防护能力仍很出色。我进行了一些路过式下载(drive-by downloads)测试。它的多点、实时监控提供了合情合理（当然达不到无懈可击）的保护功能。它好象面对 polymorphic 恶意软件时稍显脆弱，因此，我建议它结合免费AVG Anti-Spyware的定期、手工扫描配合使用。我对它的再一点保留意见是，Windows Defender 占用了较多系统资源。如果你的PC是新买的，则问题不算严重。如果你是配置差一些的机器，则性能会受到影响。
注意，你需要合法的 Windows XP SP2 许可才能运行此程序。我听说过有些破解版的 Defender可以运行在任何XP SP2上，在很多P2P网络上也能下载到，但我对它们敬而远之。用破解过的安全软件，这念头很疯狂。
第三选择是 Spyware Terminator [3]。不像 Spyware Doctor 或 Windows Defender，它适合任何Windows版本。因此，它是 Windows 9x 用户的不二选择。 它的功能也不差。和 Windows Defender那样，它的保护能力相当强。实际上，凭借其内置的HIPS系统，它会在未知的侵犯行为发生时警告你。在面对未知威胁时，它比微软产品更加有效。这一观点在我的几次路过式下载测试中得到了证实，Spyware Terminator 都没有被攻破。
Spyware Terminator 拥有自己的间谍软件检测引擎，但也允许用户使用基于开源的 ClamWin 反病毒软件的第二引擎。尽管ClamAV 算不上最有效的反病毒产品，但至少也不错，并且作为附加保险更不会有任何损失。
不太好的方面是，Spyware Terminator 扫描速度较慢，并且会拖累计算机变慢，当然不会象 Windows Defender那样严重。另外，我听到过一些报告称，免费论坛的支持较差。
从 Spyware Doctor Starter Edition、Windows Defender、Spyware Terminator 中做出选择并非易事。完整商业版的 Spyware Doctor 在检测率方面很出色，但Starter Edition中缩减的签名文件、稍差的行为保护则让人犹豫。Defender 占资源多，但行为保护能力不错。不过，它的检测性能，则很一般。
目前综合来看，我认为 Spyware Terminator 在各种因素平衡方面，是三款软件中做得最好的。但作为免费软件，如何能保持延续性，仍令人担忧。尤其是反间谍软件这一类别，在技术支持方面要占用很多精力。
另一方面，如果你使用的杀毒软件具备良好的行为保护功能，比如免费版 AntiVir，则建议选择 Spyware Doctor。它的检测能力不错，删除恶意软件的本领出众，签名文件定期而可靠的更新。注意：Spyware Doctor Starter Edition 可以通过 Google Pack 下载，也可以在这里 [4] 单独下载。

4 最佳免费浏览器保护工具
现在流氓软件横行。或许你某一刻只是访问了一个网站，或安装了一款软件，但下一刻，你的IE主页就被篡改、默认的搜索设置发生了变更、屏幕上不停弹出广告，甚至后果比这还坏。
如果你使用 Windows 2000或更高版本，则我首荐的安全上网工具是免费的 Sandboxie [1]，它会在PC上创建一人特殊的沙盘环境。当你在沙盘中启用浏览器上网时，实际上你的行为与计算机的其他部分是隔离的。因此，你下载的文件只存在于沙盘内。类似的，你执行的程序也是在沙盘内运行，而不会影响硬盘上的正常文件、windows操作系统或计算机其他内容。
使用方法很简单。想在沙盘中开始浏览，只须在快速启动工具栏中点击 Sandboxie 图标，它就会在沙盘中打开浏览器。然后，你就象正常上网那样访问网站和下载文件了。
如果你下载了文件，它也能正常安装。但关闭沙盘后，它就会从计算机上消失，仿佛只在内存中运行过。加入到自动运行菜单的项目也会只限于沙盘中。
当你上网完毕，就可以再次右键点击 Sandboxie 图标，删除全部沙盘内容，这样计算机就回到了此前的状态。如果你想留住部分内容或文件，则可以在清空沙盘之前先做保存。
其优势显而易见：任何形式的恶意软件的恶意行为，都会随着沙盘而清空消失。
Sandboxie 和所有浏览器都配合很好，但需要 Windows 2000 或更高版本。在个别计算机上也可能引发问题，所以，安装之前先备份。
低版本 Windows 用户可以考虑 SpywareBlaster [2]。此免费软件不是沙盘工具，而是改变计算机的一些设置，来预防感染。它提供了对上千种基于ActiveX的恶意软件的保护、屏蔽恶意站点、删除恶意cookie。SpywareBlaster 对IE最有效，但也适用于Firefox。尽管这有些多余，因为Firefox并不使用因而无须担心 ActiveX。实际上，一旦这些设定生效，计算机上就不需要随时运行了。除非你需要升级。升级工作可以手工进行，或者付费（每年9.95美元）后自动进行。
与 SpywareBlaster 相当的软件是 SpywareGuard [3]，它提供主动保护。它在程序运行之前先检测恶意行为，另外，也做一些基于签名文件的检查。但由于它在新产品更新方面较为消极，一年多没升级了，所以我只能给它一个合格的评价。

5 最佳免费防火墙 更新 2月 10, 2008
从没有哪类软件，给普通用户在安装和每天的使用中带来如此多不安，甚至不便。
对于这样的用户，Sunbelt-Kerio Personal Firewall [1] 是我的首荐产品。它防护功能适中，带来的问题最少。
Kerio 于2005下半年终止了此软件的更新，但感谢 Sunbelt Software，优秀反间谍软件扫描工具 CounterSpy 的开发商，接手并让它一直延续下来。请注意，Sunbelt Kerio 的付费版和免费版是相同的。如果你没有注册软件，则30天后高级功能会禁用。软件也会在每次启动时提醒你一次。对一些人而言，这只是顶级软件的一笔小费用。对另外一些人，则只能不用它。
如果你关注性能超过易用性，则首选方案应该是 Comodo firewall [2]。此软件本身非常强健稳定，最新发布的V3版包括了优秀的入侵检测系统，对 Vista 的兼容性也很好。Comodo 也支持网络共享连接，而免费版的 Kerio 和 ZoneAlarm 不支持。入侵检测系统的交互性太强，这导致无经验用户会无所适从，不胜其扰。也有报告称新的V3存在bug，所以最好过几个月稳定后再安装。此外，Comodo 还与其他几种安全产品有冲突。但是对于那些技术高手，和能够对付这些问题的人而言，这真是一款杰出的产品，也是最简单的第一推荐方案。但要注意，你在高级模式下安装它，因为基本模式下HIPs和 outbound protection 是禁用的。
近期出现的竞争者有Online Armor Personal Firewall V2 [3] 的免费版，它因为泄露测试中的良好表现和易于使用而颇受好评。我看了一下它的完整商业版，印象很深，但感觉测试的免费版缩水太多，因此，不太推荐。但是，我从用户那里得来的反馈都是正面的。
Jetico Firewall [4]在技术方面也给人留下了深刻印象。它取得了最近一次防火墙测试的最高评价，但我个人认为，它不太易用。不过，说不定它符合你的要求。
NetVeda Safety.Net firewall [5]也是款不错的产品。它的性能十分出众，并且提供了应用程序控制和内容过滤。它能力出众，本应享有更高声誉，值得有经验用户放入收藏清单。
我不再推荐 ZoneAlarm firewall [6]免费版。因为它与商业版相比，提供的功能太有限。最新免费版在泄露测试中的表现很差，而商业版本则很出色。下载包同样包括了体积巨大的商业套件，要小心别安装它。不过，好的一面是ZA免费版可与Vista兼容。

6 最佳免费木马扫描/移除工具 pandaface译
本类软件的最佳推荐是AVG Anti-Spyware [1]。在GriSoft收购它之前被称为Ewido。
Ewido一开始是个反木马扫描工具，但新东家已经将其重新定位成一个反间谍扫描工具。新名字也反映了它的新定位。不管叫什么，它都是一个出色的反木马和不错的反间谍软件。
在我的测试中，Ewido/AVG Anti-Spyware 是少数可以检测到被许多反病毒产品忽略的多态和进程插入木马。不幸的是，AVG Anti-Spyware免费版不包含内存监视器，而这样很大程度地减弱了其主动保护功能。不管怎样，它的按需扫描还是非常出色的。
我建议所有没有反木马扫描工具的普通PC用户下载AVG Anti-Spyware并且每星期扫描他们的PC。

7 最佳免费Rootkit Scanner/Remover 更新 March 10, 2008
Rootkits are a special kind of software tool used to hide trojans, viruses and other malware from your anti virus scanner and other security products. Unfortunately, they are extremely effective which means that some of you reading this will be infected even though you believe your PC to be totally clean. Thankfully there is a new class of security product now available called rootkit detectors that use specialized techniques to detect these dangerous intruders.
Most of these detectors require quite a bit of technical skill to interpret the results but two of the simplest to use are also amongst the most effective. The first is called Panda Anti Rootkit [1]. It's my top recommendation for average users because it not only good at detecting rootkits it also quite effective at removing them. As a bonus it's small and doesn't require installation although you do have to register at the Panda website before you can download it. I suggest everyone download this product and scan their PC’s. The chances of you being infected are small, but for five minutes work it's not worth taking the risk.
Panda Anti Rootkit will detect most rootkits missed by AV scanners, but it can't provide perfect detection; no rootkit detector can. That's why I suggest you use more than one.
Recommended products:
If you are an experienced user you should check out Sysinternals RootkitRevealer [2]. It uses a totally different different technique than Panda Anti Rootkit and BlackLight and by using all three products together you'll be getting excellent overall detection. RootkitRevealer is more complex to use than BlackLight, and is a bit prone to false positives, so take care before deleting detected items.
For experienced users my top recommendation is GMER [3] though you will need to read the documentation carefully before using this one. I like this product a lot but it's not for everyone. So if you are the type that simply likes to press the "scan" button then stick with Panda Anti Rootkit ;>)
Currently two of the biggest guns in the rootkit detection war are the free Chinese products IceSword [4] and DarkSpy [5]. They are not really detectors like the other products rather they offer a set of tools that can help reveal the presence of a rootkit. These tools include a special process viewer, startup manager and port enumerator that are not fooled by rootkits. It's left to the user though, to interpret the results. In the hands of an skilled user, these are powerful tools but not much use to beginners. The Chinese download sites are slow so I've given local download links [4], [5].
The reality is that at the present time, full protection against rootkits may require the use of multiple products and complete removal may require a system rebuild. For more details see my introductory article on rootkits [6].

8 最佳免费Intrusion Prevention and Detection Utility for Home Use (HIPS) 更新 2月 2, 2008
These days all users face a real risk of malicious programs secretly installing themselves on their computers. Anti virus and anti spyware products dramatically reduce the chance of infection but are not perfect. In particular they are prone to miss new malware products not yet included in their signature databases. They can also fail to detect malware programs that are cleverly disguised to avoid detection.
To prevent these malevolent programs from slipping by your AV and anti spyware programs you need additional defenses such as a Host based Intrusion Prevention program (HIPS). These programs pick up intruders by their behavior rather than by their characteristic fingerprint. They are not limited to detecting specific malware products but can target a wide range of interlopers. For the most part HIPS programs all work in a similar manner; they stop any suspicious behavior and then ask the user whether they want to allow it. This, as we shall see, can be a mixed blessing.
Unfortunately most HIPS programs, including the popular free programs WinPatrol and Prevx, generate a lot of warning messages many of which are quite cryptic. These messages tend to alarm many less experienced users who feel there is something wrong and simply don't know how to respond. That's why these products are only suitable for the very experienced (and very patient).
Thankfully a new generation of HIPS programs has emerged that use white lists, black lists, policies and behavior analysis rules along with other techniques to reduce the number of messages and the load on the user.
Editor's Choice:
A prime example of this class of product is ThreatFire (formerly Cyberhawk) [1] from PCTools. It's available in a free and paid versions and I use the free version on one of my PC's. It only occasionally issues warnings but when it does the warnings are usually real and need to be taken seriously. In essence it provides a vital additional layer of protection to my AV and anti spyware scanners at little cost in terms of annoyance and no cost in terms of my wallet. It is the stand out free product in the HIPS category. Note: A number of readers have reported browsing performance problems after installing ThreatFire. I've not found that myself but be aware that this may be a problem on some PCs.
There are some solid other contenders. Blink Personal from eEye [2] is a HIPS with a firewall as opposed to products like Comodo and ZoneAlarm Pro that are firewalls with HIPS. It's a useful tool for advanced users though I found ThreatFire to be more effective and yet simpler to configure and use. Blink is also only free for non commercial use.

There are lots of reasons folks have for wanting to surf anonymously, ranging from simple paranoia to possibly being murdered by a malevolent foreign government. Whatever the reasons, commercial services that offer anonymity are doing real well. However one of the best services JAP [1], is totally free. In fact JAP is perhaps a little too good. That's why the German Police insisted in 2004 that a backdoor be put into the product to allow interception of child pornographers. This was done but subsequently removed as a result of court action by JAP.
An alternative to JAP is a system called Tor [2]. It not only allows anonymous browsing but anonymous P2P, email, IM, and IRC chat as well. Given the US Navy origin of Tor, the suspicion arises that this system may indeed have a permanent backdoor. However the source code is now publicly available so that suspicion can perhaps be set aside. More worrying was a raid by German police in 9月 2006 involving the seizing of some Tor servers in that country. Again, pedophiles were the supposed target but who really knows.
Whatever, both JAP and Tor offer a level of secrecy that is better than many commercial systems though not watertight. Do expect your surfing to slow down as you'll be relayed through a chain of servers particularly with Tor which has been ground to a near standstill by BitTorrent users seeking to hide from the RIAA. Note: the latest V5 release of JAP now allows Tor users to use JAP as a software access point.
A recent development is the release of the XeroBank Browser [3], previously called TorPark, a special version of the Firefox browser that has been configured to work with the free Tor anonymizing service and run directly from a USB flash drive. It's a neat idea; just plug in your USB stick to any PC with a USB port and Firefox V2 is automatically launched, set up for secure and private surfing.
The most obvious application is internet cafes, public terminals or indeed any PC including your own where you don't want to leave any trace of your private surfing activities. However, what attracts me is not so much the privacy side as the security potential. That's because TorPark creates a secure encrypted connection between the PC you are using and the first Tor server. This allows you to safely transmit information without fear of local interception. This makes it ideal for surfing on open Wi-Fi networks. Previously, secure surfing on such networks required the use of private VPN networks, an option only available to corporates, the well-heeled and the technically savvy. Now, using XeroBank Browser, any surfer can reap the same security benefits for their browsing.
An alternative to XeroBank is OperaTor [4] which is a portable version of Opera with Tor built in. It's smaller and faster than XeroBank though Firefox users will feel more comfortable with XeroBank.

再一款可用的webmail免费软件是POP Peeper [6]，它能在邮箱有新邮件时进行提醒。当Hotmail、MSN、Yahoo、Mail.com、MyWay、Excite、Lycos.com或其他邮箱有新邮件时，它会通过系统托盘图标进行提示。它特别适用于拥有多个邮箱的用户。然而它本身不能收取邮件到POP3邮件客户端。如果要收取邮件，还要使用上面提到的某款软件。不过，POP Peeper本身就允许你读取甚至回复邮件，而不打开邮件客户端。这对那些没使用 像Outlook或Thunderbird这样的正规邮件客户端的用户无疑有着强烈的吸引力。

14 最佳免费剪贴板增强工具 2008-02-27更新 xbeta译
剪贴板管理工具有很多，但做的事如我所需，做事方式如我所愿的却不多。
Clipx [1] 和 Clipomatic [2] 是2款优先软件。它们都快速、小巧、易用、消耗资源少。当你按下可定制的热键时，它们就弹出一个菜单，由你选择剪贴板内容。选择方式既包括鼠标点击，也包括快捷键，这样就让完整的“复制-选择-粘贴”过程都可以由键盘完成。记录和显示的剪辑数量，可以通过选项来设定；同时，还可以指定永久的剪辑内容，比如常用文本。两款软件使用内存都不超过1MB，因此任何计算机都可以设为开机自动运行。
Clipomatic 更易用一些，在永久条目方面也更加稳定，但不足之处是仅支持文本。ClipX能完成Clipomatic所做的一切（支持永久条目需从官网下载插件），再加上图像复制功能。
我停用这两款软件的唯一原因是，它们所保存的剪辑数量有限制。它们可以放下30多条剪辑，但当所有内容都显示在弹出菜单上时，就会在屏幕过高而不易使用。如果你要弹出菜单小巧精致，就得减少数量。
另有一些工具能记录全部剪贴历史，但过于复杂。Clip Magic [3] 和 Yankee Clipper III [4] 能够记录、排序、存档大量剪贴历史信息，并且每项功能都做得不错。但不止于此，它们更象基于剪贴板的个人信息管理工具，而不是剪贴板强化工具。这种过度扩张的后果就是，破坏了操作的简洁性。Yankee Clipper 目前是共享软件，但最新的免费版本也可以在下述链接取得。
ArsClip [5] 在软件功能与简洁方面实现了较好的平衡。它和Clipomatic、ClipX一样小巧快速，又能记录更长的剪贴历史。它的聪明之处在于，记录全部历史，但只显示一小部分。要显示另外一部分，需要再点一下按钮或菜单。它的历史记录也是可以搜索的。ArsClip 也支持永久条目，并且通过分组（比如论坛发文、邮件地址、签名档等）扩展了功能，在弹出菜单上分级显示。ArsClip 还提供了一键编辑内容的功能。它还有一大优点就是，ArsClip无须安装，可以运行在便携介质上，这样剪贴内容就可以永随身边。
对那些不需要剪贴管理功能的用户而言，ClipX和Clipomatic是最佳选择。它们的体积都极为小巧，简洁，但显著提升了Windows系统剪贴板的功能。Clip Magic 和 YCIII更象是全能的剪贴内容管理程序(application)，而不是小工具(utility)。当然，如果你喜欢收集大量信息，则它们就很适用，尤其是出色的排序和存档功能。我最喜欢的还是ArsClip，它运行快速，又没有多余的功能，同时数据存储功能出色。

15 最佳免费HTML编辑器 更新：2008-02-18
很多专业网页设计师和web开发者使用Adobe产品（比如DreamWeaver），而还有一些人则使用最简单的文本编辑器，并且某种程度上为这样做而感到自豪。
文本编辑器对编程人员，或特别想掌握html源代码的人是不错的选择；但多数用户对此不会感到有趣。他们只想有一款易用的工具，能在所见即所得的情况下，快速而轻松的制作出网页。
再理想一点，此工具在免费的前提下，最好还能检验html代码的规范性、包括FTP客户端、在不同浏览器中预览网页、支持meta-tags、提供基本图像编辑功能。做到这点并不容易。最接近此目标的免费工具是 KompoZer [3]，也是我们对新手的首荐方案。它是一个全功能的所见即所得的编辑器，是从开源的 Nvu 修改而来。尽管它自己也有一点稳定性问题，但它仍修正了 Nvu 的一些bug。
这类工具面临的一个难题是要不断更新和升级。因为会不断出现新的浏览器、XHTML、CSS、Ajax等事物，并且它们也会不断升级。但遗憾的是，KompoZer并没做到这点——最新版本是在2006年6月发布的，而KompoZer基于的Nvu则已经停止了开发。
这确实一个大问题。另一款软件 Evrsoft First Page 2006 [1] 也不错，但正如名称所示，也失之陈旧；另一款 Selida [5] 的最后更新是在2005年。
对高级用户的首荐方案是 HTML-Kit 292 [2]。它不是所见即所得风格，也不仅仅是文本编辑器。它是一个特别的html编辑器，拥有众多插件，更适合看作开发环境。它的最新发布日期为2008年2月。此外，它有一个庞大的社区，因此一直在持续开发和升级。其网站上有很多视频教程，以及包括插件在内的资源。它是唯一能兼容 Vista 的免费工具，并且是便携的。总之，它是认真的代码编写人员的上佳选择。
此外还有3种免费工具值得说明。
第1款是 Amaya [4]。它来自于 World Wide Web Consortium (W3C)，因此格外令人期待。它在规范性、可访问性（accessibility）方面光彩夺目。而在其他方面，则不是太突出。
第2款 SeaMonkey Composer [6] 是 SeaMonkey套件的一部分。此套件也包括一个浏览器、IRC、电子邮件、邮件群组功能。如同 KompoZer 和 Nvu 一样，SeaMonkey 编辑器也是基于早期 Netscape 的同名编辑器，但至少它仍在更新中。如果你想用所见即所得的编辑器，而认为 KompoZer 有太多bug，则可以试试它。

此类有三款优秀软件。首先是经典的IrfanView。IrfanView [1]是一流软件，但我对它持复杂的感觉。正因如此，它在我的46款最佳免费软件清单中几次进出。它是一款功能丰富的软件，但工作方式与我期望的方式有较大差异。而另外一些用户则很适应它。
另一款用起来更舒服的软件是 XnView[2]。和Irfan一样，它的功能也很多；能读取和查看400余种文件类型，并把它们转化为50种格式。它显示图片的速度很快，支持全屏、幻灯播放、缩略图。另外，它在处理图片方面也很全能，可以调整亮度、颜色、应用滤镜和特效、裁减照片、缩放、转换格式及更多。它些操作也可从批处理文件完成，因此，在缩小很多图片以适合web和email使用时，非常理想。它支持拖放，拥有很多插件，有44种语言界面，支持Mac在内的多种平台。它与IrfanView有很多共同点，实际上，共同点如此之多，而近乎危险的剽窃。积极方面想，人们可以说模仿是最高程度的赞美，但IrfanView的开发者对此可不仅是略有微辞。XnView对非商用免费，windows及其他平台皆是如此。windows下的标准版体积为3.3MB，但我建议下载完整版，包括了所有插件，达6.8MB。
我的第3项选择，并且是个人最喜欢的是 FastStone Image Viewer [3]。它启动极其快速，界面简洁，令人回忆起ACDSee的臃肿之前的风采。它支持绝大多数主流图形格式和主要的数码相机RAW格式。它还具备良好的基本图像编辑功能、优秀的幻灯播放功能、简约的界面。Much to like here. 个人使用免费，限windows 98及更高版本。

再一种选择是来自Serif公司的PhotoPlus 6.0 [3]。它也很不错，也容易安装，功能丰富，支持图层。实际上，它给人的视觉和感觉都是一个轻型版的Adobe PhotoShop。注意：需要提供Email地址注册后才能得到PhotoPlus，并且会收到相关的推广宣传材料。
最近，我还收到很多用户对一款法国产品PhotoFiltre [4]的好评。它提供了包括英文在内的多种语言支持，并且，就图像编辑器而言非常小巧，下载包只有1.6MB。如同PhotoPlus一样，它也接近于旧版的PhotoShop。它可以读取/写入JPEG、GIF、BMP、TIFF、PNG、RLE格式，带有大最工具、笔刷、滤镜。美中不足的是，它不支持图层。总体而言，作为一个小软件，它提供了非常丰富的功能。

In this category there is only one outstanding winner and that is Picasa2 [1] and in my efforts to assess other photo organizers I have used this as my benchmark. The three main contenders that came the closest are DigiBookShelf light [2], Studio Line PhotoBasic3 [3] and finally as it was a joy to use was Album Burger [4]. These were all different in the way they represented and organized your photos.
When you first run Picasa 2 it offers to scan your whole hard drive (or designated locations) for photos and videos. Scanning is surprisingly quick and when finished you'll have all your shots neatly organized into folders on a time line basis. Now you can view your shots one at a time, in slideshow or traversing the time line.
The editing features are limited compared to professional image editors yet they provide you with every function amateur photographers need including one click red eye reduction. Similarly adding labels to photos is a cinch while a simple but effective star rating system allows you to flag favorite snaps. Individual folders can also be password protected. Facilities are provided to import your images from your camera in multiple formats including RAW. You can send photos to your choice of web printing services, cut a CD, print to a local printer or share with others via your own blog or instant messaging. It is also worth noting that you can create web albums with free online storage, backup, and automatic resizing when exporting or email etc. Simply sensational.
DigiBookShelf has been around since 2004 and it appears it has been left that way. This is no in-detriment to the software as it is in a class of its own and I enjoyed the virtual library. You do have to register to use all of the facilities, this is free. The surround of the bookshelf seems stark and cold, but don't let that put you off as you can download new skins and new books ends. Tutorials are available on the website.
Not only can you catalog your photos, you can edit them manually or automatically, resize, reformat (although limited) and download pictures from your camera straight into an album. Editing is quite comprehensive and there are filters for you to work with and if you wish you can add links to your photographic editor anyway. There are options to email, transfer to disk and print, but not just print the photo as you can make cards (very limited, but if the photo speaks volumes then you only need that picture) and create calendars. Still not enough? Well okay, you can save your albums as an executive file which is handy when creating your disks or pen drive and add text or sound to your pictures or album. You can even create a slide show or a webpage. Being a bookaholic I just love the way I can view each album on a book shelf, sad I know, but its creative and wonderful to use.
Studio Line PhotoBasic3 has many features that the other two have and don't have, but it is a large download if you have a 56k modem as it is a 56.6MB download. This 'free' version is for personal use only and you do have to register. PhotoBasic3 does everything you want and ask for in a photo-organizer, it displays the albums as you would see them in Windows Explorer and then the real fun starts as you won't need a photo editor at all with this. If you do want to use a photo editor then there is a link that enables you to do this. When opened you will see three main panels, left hand side is the Album files and boxes of editing and web galleries links, the middle is the photo display and information below (the information can be adapted to your own requirements) and the left is the information bar. Note in this 'free' version - Timeline - Image Archive Filter - Print Project Pages are not available.
The software can add descriptions to your images, send photos per email in just the right size, print, display slide-shows, publish web-galleries, safe-keep your images on CD or DVD. Download your photos from your camera and organize them into files and back up your images. The image edit facility has all that you would require to ensure that the photo is edited to your demands with the added bonus of some excellent effects.
Album Burger was a joy to work with, the inane smile of the burger icon with its tongue hanging out didn't put me off. To engage this software you have to create your first album, it will ask for a title and any other information you find important. If there is not a category then select your photos, select the frame for each picture and background color, when done then select your page design layout. Simple, as you can have different designs on each page. Whilst it collates the photos you will notice a window 'Album Explorer' that enables you to manage the files and open them. When you move your mouse over each photo, transparent icons will appear at the top enabling you to seek the exif information, edit the photo, magnify, define actual size of image and print. By right clicking this gives you the same information and more. You can cut paste insert extra pictures, make CD/DVD and slide shows as well as create your own web gallery and upload to the web.
There is one more I should mention, but I am not considering it as an organizer, more of a wonderful presentation of your special photographs and is well worth downloading. Have a look anyway, http://www.scrapbookflair.com/

我评测了6款压缩工具：QuickZip、ICEOWS、IZArc、TUGZip、ZipGenius、7-Zip.
给我印象最深的是开源软件7-Zip [1]。只有它能解压zip包内分卷的rar文档，并在解压256位加密winzip文档时给出有意义的出错信息。我的唯一保留意见是，它支持的文档格式略少于其他软件；仅支持 7z、ZIP、CAB、RAR、ARJ、GZIP、BZIP2、Z、TAR、CPIO、RPM、DEB格式。
如果上一问题对你比较重要，则推荐 IZArc [2]。它可以读取50多种压缩格式，包括镜像格式ISO、BIN、IMG，可以写入（和转换）12种压缩格式。另外，它可以处理多卷zip文件，而7-Zip不能。总起来看，用这2款工具中的任一种都不会错。7-Zip更加稳定，而IZArc则更加灵活。如果你在用Winzip，你会发现7-Zip和IZArc都是出色的替代方案。它们可以读取WinZip不支持的很多格式，包括常见的rar格式。

Do you find yourself doing the same thing over and over again? Do you open the same program, then start another utility to help with that program, time after time, day after day? Are you visiting the same websites, or checking your email so many times a day that you lose count? Do you type the same text information so often that you could do it in your sleep? For those of you who answer “Yes” to any of those questions, there are programs that make those tasks fast, simple, and easy to perform called Hotkey and Macro Recorder utilities. Real time-savers, and let’s face it, who has enough time to do everything we want nowadays? With the right utility and a small amount of effort to learn and set up the program to suit your needs, you can enjoy your computing experience in a much more pleasant and productive way, and never be bored with those repetitive tasks again!
For macho macro power you can't beat AutoHotkey [1]. This extremely versatile program can automate most anything by capturing keystrokes, mouse clicks and even joystick movements and linking them to virtually any action you want including application launching, surfing to a particular website, and even inserting text or code snippets. Combine these features with a powerful scripting language and you have a product of awesome capability. Indeed, calling this product a mere "hotkey" utility is like calling Westminster Cathedral a chapel. However, all this power does come at a cost; AutoHotkey is no product for beginners. That being said, there are many ready-made AutoIt v2 scripts available on the Internet that do just about anything you can think of, ready to download and put to good use. It’s the product I use and an easy first choice for the technically literate.
For average users a good choice is PS Hot Launch VVL [2]. This is a free utility that allows you to define your own hotkeys so that a single key press can launch an application, insert commonly used text, change your audio volume, or just about anything else. The program requires Win95/98/ME or WinNT/2000/XP, and is an excellent performer even on slow machines. PS Hot Launch is the perfect alternative to the Start menu and the Quick Launch panel.
A second option for average users is Qliner's Hotkeys, a free Open Source utility [3]. It's strength is ease of use, wide support for international keyboard layouts, plus a handy reminder key that flashes up your current hotkey assignments. Just hold the Windows key for three seconds and up pops an on-screen keyboard display with icons on the keys that are configured. You can use this not only to remind you of hotkey combinations, but also for Drag and Drop configuration. On the minus side, it's not quite as flexible as PS Hot Launch. It runs under Windows 2003, Windows XP, and Windows Vista, but requires that Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 be installed.
Still another choice, which is not really a hotkey utility at all but achieves the same result by using "magic words", is SlickRun [4]. This program places a tiny text box on your screen and when you type specially assigned words into the box, it will launch a program, go to a web site, or whatever. For example if you type "mail" it can launch your mail reader. Type in "46" and it can take you to the web page of the "46 Best-ever Freeware Utilities." Of course, it's up to you to define these “magic words” and you can have as many as you want. It all works very neatly with some really nice touches like auto-complete for your “magic words”, which means you only have to type in two or three letters and SlickRun will complete the rest. Another great feature is an eyedropper tool that allows you to identify a program you want to "hotkey" just by clicking in its application window. There's also a built-in note jotter and calendar date display.

在清理之前，确保注册表已经备份并且至少要将备份文件放到计算机内的两个不同位置。
EasyCleaner [1]是我的第一推荐。我自己每周一次使用这一产品来清理注册表里的垃圾信息。它表现良好，不会产生别的问题，并且可以生成一份清单列举出在无论如何都不能清理的注册表键值。它还可以检测并且删除重复文件、清理临时文件夹以释放磁盘空间。
Eusing Free Registry Cleaner [2]也是一款表现良好的工具，但是和EasyCleaner相比还是有一定差距。不过，我只知道它在清理注册表方面的几个问题。
另一选择是RegSeeker，但是它已经给很多人造成了许多问题，我也就不再提供链接了，这是一款令人失望的产品。

BitTorren迅速成为了主流下载方式之一，其发展速度令人吃惊。但也很有道理：快速、公平、高效。如果你的计算机尚未安装BT客户端，你就应该从最优秀的免费产品中选择一款。我推荐开源软件 Azureus [1]。它是一个有强大功能的，良好支持的，基于JAVA开发因此支持多种平台的BT客户端 。它有着丰富的特性，支持植入的tracker服务器(所以你可以控制你自己的torrents)，UPnP，拥有一个分布式的包含分散的torrents和DHT信息的数据库而不是依赖于一个简单的基于Web的tracker服务器，当然我们还有很多特性没有提到。它有着大量的可用插件，包括一个足够强的RSS Feed扫描器。其缺点是Azureus将因为需要运行多余的JAVA代码而循环消耗你的CPU资源，所以你需要一个足够快的电脑。

I used WS_FTP Pro as my principal FTP client for years. What started out as a simple but effective product, gradually, with each new version, became more feature-loaded and less effective for my rather simple needs. With the release of Version 9 it was clear to me that the product was no longer suited to my requirements so I started looking for an alternative. After trying seven different FTP clients, I decided that the best for me was the Open Source utility FileZilla [1].
FileZilla uses a simple layout based on a two-pane interface that looks a bit like the early versions of WS_FTP. But this simplicity is deceptive, it is actually quite a powerful product. There's a full-featured site manager, firewall and proxy support, SFTP, SSL and Kerberos GSS security, restart, drag 'n drop and a lot more. The only significant feature that's missing is site-to-site transfer, but that's of no importance to me. What is of importance is that FileZilla is fast, totally reliable, secure and and very easy to use. There's also a free FileZilla FTP server which I haven't used but I hear that it's just as good as the client.
The new V3 of FileZilla adds support for Linux, Mac OS X and FreeBSD but feature wise offers no advantage over V2. In fact I prefer V2 as it includes better file editing.
If you want a SCP (secure copy) client for Windows that uses SSH and offers a rich feature set there's WinSCP [2]. It features a built-in terminal, it can launch Putty directly, allows remote file editing, direct transfer and transfer queuing, and the ability to limit download speed rates.
For true heavyweight lifting you might like to consider the lite LE edition of the commercial product CoreFTP [3]. It's the program of choice for many Net-savvy users who have found their way to it as it's skinny enough to be fast yet feature-rich enough to be a heavyweight. It's especially good at doing fast, everyday transfers that need a better-than-average FTP client.
CoreFTP has four particular strengths:
1. It has the best tricky-site access ability of any FTP client I've used.
2. It has an excellent GUI that makes it outstandingly easy to use.
3. It has a massive feature set that somehow doesn't slow it down.
4. It has good on-screen real-time logging.
There are sites - especially those with extra security, where it takes about 8 seconds to connect - that cause some FTP clients insurmountable problems; CoreFTP will get you in. I couldn't log on to one site at all with WS_FTP and some of the others, but this one did the trick. The neat on-screen log display also lets you know what's happening if you have problems. You can force-view invisible files, like htaccess. The chmod feature is useful, you can set your directory and file permissions with a very clear interface; ditto the clear and fast site manager. There's a nice one-click reconnect to the last site in use.
Here is a feature list: HIPAA compliance, SFTP/ SSH, SSL/ TLS, FTP/ HTTP/ SOCKS proxy, IDN, drag 'n drop, site manager, session manager, queue manager, custom screens, bandwidth control, caching, auto-transfer, retry/resume, auto-reconnect options, auto S/key, remote file-searching, advanced directory listings, start/stop/resume of transfers, full recursive chmod, browser integration, site to site transfers, file viewing and editing, firewall support, custom commands, FTP URL parsing, command line transfers, filters. This should be enough for most people. If not, upgrade to the $25 Pro version that that has custom sounds, two-way encryption, ping and traceroute, and more.

File synchronization utilities are designed to help you keep 更新 copies of files or folders in two or more different locations, such as different computers, network drives, USB drives, online storage, etc. While a file sync utility could be used as a simple backup tool (called one-way syncing), its real power lies in keeping two sets of identical working files, such as keeping current versions of the same data files on both your home computer and office computer (two-way syncing). File sync utilities keep track of which files you create or change, or even delete in one location, and can create, change and even delete those same files in the other location.
I believe there are two easy first choices here. The first is SyncToy for Windows XP SP2 or Vista [1] This program is more than a syncing program; it can copy, move, rename, and delete files between any number of folders and even computers. The program operates on the principal of pre-defined folder pairs. You define and name these pairs and then when you want to perform a task, you recall one of these pairs and carry out the operation. Syncing can be in either direction and covers all options from complete sync to updating newer files only. SyncToy can also keep track of files you rename and rename those in the sync destination. Overwritten files in the destination can be saved in the recycle bin, in case you need the older version. It is a well rounded utility, with almost every feature you could ever want in a sync utility. In my opinion the only major things that it lacks, is direct support for ftp, and a portable version. (Note: SyncToy requires V2.0 of Microsoft's .NET framework.)
If you need a synchronization solution that also works for older Windows versions, has support for ftp, or includes a portable version, I recommend Allway Sync [2] It is a very capable program with a great selection of features. It is very easy to use “right out of the box” with a clear-cut and simple interface, yet it will allow for fine tuning of your synchronization jobs through, sync rules, inclusion and exclusion filters, versioning policies and more. One nice feature is its ability to detect and begin sync jobs the moment a removable device is connected. When it comes to certain aspects of file tracking, SyncToy probably has the edge, but Allway Sync’s ability to upload files to online storage through ftp, and the existence of two different portable versions, including one that supports U3 technology, makes it first-rate option as well. The free version of Allway Sync has a limitation that restricts it to synchronizing no more that 20,000 files in a 30 day period, but this is probably more than enough for the average user.
Another highly recommended program is 2brightspark's SyncBack Freeware [3]. It works for Windows 98 through XP (only partial Vista support) and has a number of features that SyncToy lacks. One very nice feature is its ability to sync to a remote FTP server. It also supports using zip compression so the files take up less space on removable media. 2brightspark also has a commercial version of the program, SyncBackSE, which has many additional features, and full Vista compatibility. However for many average users the freeware version will prove sufficient.
